WELCOME TO MY PORTFOLIO
Hello! Welcome to my honors portfolio! My name is Erika Ezenekwe and I am a senior at the University of Cincinnati. I am a health sciences major with a physiologic concentration and I have a chemistry minor.
A little about my family life is that I am also the oldest of 5 children and have two brothers and two sisters. I absolutely love reading, catching up with old and new friends and traveling. Learning about new cultures and hearing other people's stories just excited and bring me so much joy.
Growing up my family was very involved in our local church and that has shaped me to who I am today. The church had a huge influence on my life and still today influence my decision and goals in life. My church upbringing has helped me adjust to new situations well and has brought me comfort when life doesn't go to plan.
I also love volunteering and doing community service. I am a current volunteer at Christ Hospital and was on the cardiovascular intensive care unit this past year. People in the hospital and truly seeing the dynamics of how nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants and physician interact with each other and with the patient. It helped me realize more and more that the medical field relies heavily on teamwork.
Outside of volunteering I am an avid traveler. I spent the past fall semester studying abroad at the University of Birmingham in Birmingham, England. Also, this year I was blessed to on the leadership team for Cru, which is an on-campus ministry where I help mentor and engage with new students and grow in my faith. I also got excepted to be a College od Allied Health Ambassador, which are the official ambassadors for the College of Allied Health and the face of the college. As well as be a part of the Honors ambassador team, where we help and serve the honors program with interviews for new advisors to planning fun events to engage with other honors students and students not in the honors program.
The summer of 2015 I had the opportunity to do medical missionary work through vision trust in the Dominican Republic and was one the greatest experiences of my life. It has inspired me and reaffirmed my goal to be a physician and It has also spurred my desire to study abroad. This past spring, I was able to go to Houston, Texas and spend my spring break helping with Hurricane Harvey relief. And this summer I will be going to Uganda to help with humanitarian aid in refugee camps and bring supplies to those in need.
